Young Accompanists’ Showcase Master Class on Sunday June 3rd

Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

Dear Friends of Accompanists,

A reminder that our Young Accompanists’ Showcase Master Class is on again at 2.30 pm this Sunday June 3, in the Hudson Room at Brighton High School ( car park and entrance off King George Ave). This is the third time the South Australian Youth Arts Board has funded our chief educational project for Secondary School students. ( a great bonus as they rarely support events twice let alone 3 times)

We are extremely lucky that the distinguished pianist, examiner & educator, Darryl Coote, is in Adelaide for a few days and has enthusiastically agreed to conduct this masterclass. Our previous 2 master classes with Timothy Sexton ( 2005) and Diana Weekes (2006) saw some magical changes in the performances of the young accompanists. We anticipate that Darryl will conjure up similar magic next Sunday.

As in previous years our Young Accompanists have been couple with professional musicians who will no doubt stretch them to their limits. After preparing their music with the assistance of their teachers the students receive several rehearsals sessions with their soloist - before the Master Class and the 2 public concerts ( Sun June 24 Brighton at 2.30 and Wed July 11 at 12.10 Pilgrim Church in the Ferstival of Accompanists)

Our Young Accompanists this year are: Ada Chan, James Hemphill, Marianne Grynchuk, Candy Liang, Will Roxburgh and Steffanie Wall and their professional associates are Meredith Boyle ( French Horn) , Heather Lloyd ( viola), Rosalind Martin ( soprano ) and Robert Macfarlane ( tenor)

The YAS Organizing Committee - Gina Macri, Leonie Hempton and Julie Sargeant have expended much energy ensuring this important project involving selected secondary students ptovides them with a positive experience as accompanists. They will really appreciate sharing the fruits of this experience with the wider public interested in the future of the Art of Accompaniment.

So…

You will be most welcome on Sunday June 3 at 2.30 pm

Venue: Hudson Room at Brighton High School

$10, $5 (stud/conc), $20 (Family) AGSA members and performers’ “chauffers” free.

Look forward to seeing some of you there for a stimulating Sunday afternoon.

Radio National’s ‘Into the Music’ features the accompanist

Monday, May 14th, 2007

If you didn’t hear the Radio National ‘Into the Music’ program on The Accompanist on March 24th it’s well worth a listen.

AGSA, the 2006 Festival of Accompanists and participants David Miller and Irina Lioubimova are included amongst such luminaries as Gerald Moore, Geoffrey Parsons & Iain Burnside (who did a MV tour with Yvonne Kenny last year & I think was probably the inspiration for Robyn Johnston’s doco.)

Hope you had a chance to hear it - I did tape it but lost the middle !! ( and who listens to tapes any more??)

The audio files have been removed from the ABC’s website now, but you can still see the details at:
