Join the Guild for two fascinating afternoons at the Baptist Church Hall in Tynte Street North Adelaide with visiting Adelaide born & educated pianist and academic NICOLE PANIZZA returning from the UK to visit her parents. 2021 Geoffrey Parsons Award Conquers COVID Lockdown with Technology And a Victorian Musician Wins $7000 Prize! On Sunday 19 September in Adelaide, Melbourne musician Yasmin Rowe won the $7000 Geoffrey Parsons Award, the Accompanists’ Guild of South Australia’s national competition for piano accompanists.Judging panel Chairperson, acclaimed collaborative pianist Leigh Harrold, praised all the contestants on the high standard of their performances saying that it was absolutely inspiring –and indicative of the tenacity and resilience of a new generation of artists. He also congratulated all finalists on their choice of works saying that they were “at the pinnacle” in terms of the complexity that this genre can offer.“But,” he said “there was one finalist in particular where all these elements were in near-perfect balance. ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE WINNER OF AGSA 2020/2021 COMPOSITION AWARD
Connor Fogarty has been chosen as our 2020/2021 winner by the guest artists of the Piano and Cello Festival, Daniel de Borah and Umberto Clerici. Connor’s composition for Piano and Cello is entitled Pygmalion and Galatea. Chosen as the winner from among six excellent submissions, Connor will, as well as receiving a cash prize, have the honour of workshopping his composition and having it performed at the final concert of the Piano and Cello Festival in June 2021 by the de Borah / Clerici Duo. From the composer’s progam notes: The title of the piece comes from the Greek myth Pygmalion and Galatea. The sculptor, Pygmalion, falls in love with the statue of a beautiful woman that he created. He prays to Aphrodite to bring the statue to life. The statue becomes Galatea. They marry and live a happy life together. The piece is a series of episodes which loosely…
POSTPONEMENT OF FESTIVAL OF PIANO AND CELLO
Due to the uncertainty surrounding the spread of the Covid 19 Virus, we are postponing the Festival of Piano and Cello which was scheduled for June this year. While we are very sorry to be doing this, it is the only sensible thing to do in the circumstances.At this stage, we are in the process of finding replacement dates. We will keep you informed of the new dates and arrangements once they are in place. In the meantime, take care of yourselves and your families and loved ones. We are so lucky to have music in our lives, remember to listen, play and enjoy it as much as you can. ❤️ 🎼
