Download this Media Release here Accompanists’ Guild of SA Media Release Adelaide: Saturday 29 September 2012 for immediate release THE 2012 GEOFFREY PARSONS AWARD WINNER ANNOUNCED Earlier this evening (29 September), the Final of Australia’s most lucrative and prestigious award for the collaborative pianist the Accompanists’ Guild of SA’s 28th Geoffrey Parsons Award, took place in Adelaide at the Elder Conservatorium of Music, The University of Adelaide. In keeping with the Guild’s acknowledgement of the professional aspirations of their competitors, the cash-pool is a significant $6,000, made possible due to the generous support of The Royal Commonwealth Society. Geoffrey Parsons was an internationally acclaimed Australian accompanist particularly for singers. He regularly accompanied, Elizabeth Schwarzkopf, Victoria de los Angeles, Dame Janet Baker, Olaf Bär, and Barbara Bonney, The three Finalists competed for a cash pool of $6,000. Accompanists’ Guild of SA Media Release Adelaide: Tuesday 25 September 2012 for immediate release THE GEOFFREY PARSONS AWARD 2012 FINALISTS ANNOUNCED The Accompanists’ Guild of SA’s 28 year old competition, The Geoffrey Parsons Award, named in honour of Australia’s legendary vocal accompanist, is one of the major events of the 2012 Festival of Accompanists. In keeping with the Guild’s acknowledgement of the professional aspirations of their competitors, the cash-pool is a significant $6,000, supported by The Royal Commonwealth Society. On Monday and Tuesday, several pianists competed in the auditions. Three were selected to take part in the Final. All competitors performed works of their own choice with soloist/s of their own choice. They then completed a sight reading test before performing, without rehearsal, the set work. Accompanists–Professional Expectations—Discussion Session Friday May 25 at 6pm   Join the AGSA Committee for a short discussion session on current expectations of the Accompanist. Well known Accompanists Andrew Georg, Alexander Hanysz and Monika Laczofy will present brief segments about their own experiences in a variety of situations including the “all rounder” as well as the requirements of specific situations such as the opera repetiteur and the Conservatorium accompanist. AGSA President, Diana Harris, will host the session and lead a segment on the AGSA Code of Practice. The Accompanists’ Guild of SA provides an opportunity for 6 to 8 Secondary School pianists to gain experience in the art of accompanying through the Young Accompanists’ Showcase (YAS). This project pairs the piano student with a professional soloist with whom they rehearse and perform. All soloists in 2012 will be wind players. JEM (Junior Ensemble Musicians) 2012 Download and print the Application Form here for full details. The Accompanists’ Guild of SA provides an opportunity for six or seven young pianists to enjoy a new experience: that of performing in a small ensemble – the art of ‘Chamber Music’. The pianists will be joined by two other instrumentalists (also Primary School age) chosen by the Convenor in consultation with teachers. Preparation will result in a public Concert on September 26, 2012, which will be recorded by 5MBS. Anna Coppens is the Masterclass Presenter. Her bio can be found on the Application Form. Anna is highly respected by her students and ideally qualified for this engagement which, to conform with AGSA’s “Year of Winds” (the Festival focus for 2012), will include a wind instrument in each trio. Monika Laczofy is the JEM Convenor.
