Accompanists’ Guild of South Australia Media Release ADELAIDE: 9 August 2012            FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Accompanists Guild of SA celebrates the pianists with some stunning woodwind. For the first time in its history the Accompanists’ Guild of South Australia has focussed the entire year’s events on highlighting Piano with Wind. It culminates in the Accompanists’ Festival in September with a Week of Winds from September 24 to 30, 2012. The Guild’s 2012 Musician-in-residence is  Timothy Young who  is one of Australia’s most brilliant chamber music pianists and  an outstanding example of the qualities he expects of his students—- that they are versatile,  multi-faceted, creative, open minded and not bound by the limiting concept of what it means to be a concert pianist. The Accompanists’ Guild of SA provides an opportunity for six or seven young pianists to enjoy a new experience: that of performing in a small ensemble – the art of ‘Chamber Music’. The pianists will be joined by two other instrumentalists (also Primary School age) chosen by the Convenor in consultation with teachers. Preparation will result in a public Concert on September 26, 2012, which will be recorded by 5MBS. Anna Coppens is the Masterclass Presenter. Her bio can be found on the Application Form. Anna is highly respected by her students and ideally qualified for this engagement which, to conform with AGSA’s “Year of Winds” (the Festival focus for 2012), will include a wind instrument in each trio. Dear Members of the Media Please find attached a media release announcing the winner of the Accompanists’ Guild of South Australia’s 2010 The Geoffrey Parsons Award. Earlier this evening (3 July), the Final of the Accompanists’ Guild of SA’s 25th Geoffrey Parsons Award, named in honour of Australia’s greatest accompanist, took place in Adelaide at the Elder Conservatorium of Music, The University of Adelaide. The three Finalists competed for a cash pool of $4,000.  They were selected from auditions earlier this week which included a performance of prepared works with their chosen associates, sight reading and a first rehearsal of the set work, Schubert’s Heimliches Lieben Op. 106, no. 1 with New Zealand tenor, Patrick Power. The Final was judged by a panel, chaired by the Guild’s Pianist in Residence for the 2010 Festival of Accompanists, Opera Australia’s Assistant Director of Music, Anthony Legge. On July 9, the Final of the Accompanists’ Guild of SA’s Geoffrey Parsons Award, named in honour of Australia’s greatest accompanist, took place in the Hartley Concert Room at The Elder Conservatorium of Music, University of Adelaide. The Award has become a centerpiece of the annual Festival of Accompanists. In announcing the winners, Leslie Howard, a Trustee of the Geoffrey Parsons Trust in London remarked ‘I’m sure Geoffrey Parsons would have been impressed that such a competition in his name exists in Adelaide South Australia. It was a pleasure to see some adventurous repertoire choices and such thorough preparation. Adelaide: Monday 16 July 2007 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE On Thursday evening (12 July), the Finals of the Accompanists’ Guild of SA’s 23rd Geoffrey Parsons Award, named in honour of Australia’s accompanist par excellence for singers, such as Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Victoria de los Angeles and Olaf Bär, took place in Adelaide at The University of Adelaide. They were selected from a group of six pianists who undertook Stage One auditions earlier this week, where they performed prepared works with their chosen associates, sight reading and an unrehearsed reading of the set work, Schumann’s Märchenbilder No. 1, Nicht schnell with Adelaide Symphony Orchestra violist, Cecily Satchell. Adelaide: 20 June 2007 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE In recent years pianist, Anthony Hunt, has made a name for himself as one of Adelaide’s leading repetiteurs, conductors and vocal accompanists. He has worked regularly with the State Opera of South Australia most recently as repetiteur for Mark Adamo’s Little Women. Last year Anthony and his wife, soprano, Jessica Dean, travelled to Germany to study with the Accompanists’ Guild’s International Patron, Phillip Moll. On Saturday 30 June at 7.30pm, in the Cynthia Poulton Hall, Anthony Hunt will present the 21st Geoffrey Parsons Award Winner’s recital in association with two of Adelaide’s fine young string players, violinist/violist, Imants Larsens and cellist, Gemma Phillips.
